Firstly, this trip to the United States was to study. On the issue of the social governance in China, many former and current researchers of Fairbank Chinese Studies had inspired me a lot, and their communication and numerous readings in the library, had made me know that Chinese society had a wider variety, but also realized the attitude and ability that the scholar should have. The second goal was to do participatory observation and make comparisons. The differences between the two cultures had been a cultural shock to me for several days in Boston. On the way, I carefully observed every things I passed, and discovered their characteristics, and built up my knowledge of Boston. The protestant ethics and more modern spiritual temperament embodied by Americans, the publicity and openness of the environment, the cultural diversity and the integration of people in Boston, and so on, let me see an America different from my traditional cognition. I thought a lot about this trip and learned a lot.
